Signs You Are Losing Weight (Even if the scales aren’t changing)

Do you ever feel frustrated by the lack of change on the scales?

You know you’re putting in the work, doing all the right things, perhaps even feeling like you’re making progress but the number on the scales stays the same!

This is the frustrating reality for many of the mums we talk to and so I wanted to write this blog post to shed some light on the many other ways to track your progress (and success) beyond the scales.

The truth is, there are so many factors that influence the number on the scales that have nothing to do with amount of body fat. Things like hormone balance, fluid retention, time of day and activity level.

With that said, it’s important to track your progress in a number of different ways and using different measures that are more than just the number on the scales.

That way, you get a more ‘well rounded’ picture of what’s really going on, helping you to stay positive, feeling great and on track.

Here are 5 signs you’re losing weight, even if the scales haven’t changed:

Increased energy levels, is one of the big benefits of weight loss. You may have noticed a change in how you feel when you wake up in the morning or when it hits the afternoon, you’re no longer looking for a pick me up. Perhaps you can keep up better with the kids throughout the day. A noticeable change in energy levels is a great sign you’re lose weight and on track.

Another good sign is if your body composition is changing. When you exercise regularly, gain muscle and tone up, this will look like a lack of weight loss on the scales. However, you will notice a difference in how comfortable you feel in clothing. Confidence may also have increased as a result of this. Try using the way you feel in clothing as a measure of weight loss success.

Even just a 10% reduction in weight can significantly improve quality of sleep. If you’re waking up feeling refreshed, going to bed feeling tired and sleeping through the night, these are great signs your weight loss efforts are paying off. Keep going! Better sleep also does wonders for hormone balance which indirectly aids in further weight loss.

Perhaps you’re finding daily tasks are easier. Walking up and down the stairs, to and from the car or doing the housework is easier now than it was before. This is a sign your weight is dropping and health is improving.

Moods are a great way to track weight loss progress. Improved diet, increased exercise and better sleep have a profound impact on moods and reducing mood swings. Perhaps you notice you’re not snapping at the kids as much, you feel more in control of emotions and are generally more optimistic. These are all great signs that you’re losing weight even if the scales haven’t changed.

There are many different ways you can track weight loss and feel confident that you’re on the right path to reaching your goals. Of the five we have shared today, which will you take forward on your weight loss journey to shift the focus away from the scales and give you a more in depth view of progress?
